We create community through people, parks, and programs. From connecting people to lifelong learning through community libraries to providing at least one Neighborhood Park per square mile of residential development to make play accessible for all ages. Our employees drive every decision, every innovation, and every aspect of our department culture to make Chandler a premier community.

Library

Chandler Public Library inspires intellectual discovery, creative entertainment, and life‑long learning through robust information resources that connect communities to a world of knowledge and new ideas. As a system of four libraries in all geographic areas of the community and a collection of nearly 500,000 books, DVDs, and a wide variety of digital resources, we bring people, information, and ideas together to read, learn, connect, and succeed. Our libraries continuously reflect on patrons' current and emerging needs and choose to advance literacy and champion inclusive learning experiences for all people by fostering accessibility and embracing new technology.

Who We Are Looking For

Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic about a dual‑role position that combines Adult Services programming with supervision of the circulation team. Because Basha serves both the general public and a large after‑school population, we are seeking a candidate who is comfortable engaging with adults of all ages while also confidently interacting with children and teens.

This position serves as the Person in Charge (PIC) for the building, requiring strong teen behavior‑management skills, sound judgment, and a high level of emotional intelligence. The ideal candidate can adapt to a dynamic, community‑centered environment, support staff and volunteers across multiple initiatives, and develop meaningful programming that reflects the needs of our diverse community.

  • 3 years of paraprofessional library experience, including 1 year of previous supervisory experience; and
  • Arizona State Teaching Certification and Arizona State School Library Endorsement required, depending on assignment; and
  • A valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library science
  • Strong understanding of teen development, behavior, and communication styles, with demonstrated experience managing teen behavior in public, educational, or community‑based settings.
  • Strong understanding of circulation operations, including policies, daily workflows, account support, and frontline service standards.

This is a regular full‑time position, subject to a 6‑month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

The City of Chandler will conduct a pre‑employment driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.

Applicants for employment and volunteer opportunities should be aware of the City of Chandler’s policies concerning the use of drugs and alcohol. These policies have not been altered by the passage of Proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the city’s Drug Free Workplace Policy. Certain positions within the city are required to be submitted to a pre‑employment drug test. A positive result for drugs tested under the policy, including recreational marijuana, may be grounds for withdrawal of an offer of employment or volunteer opportunity. The examination process may vary if determined necessary.
