This is a remote position. We’re looking for a Technical Writer to join the Product Management documentation team on a 12‑month freelance contract (part‑time). This role offers a daily rate. Fluent German and English both spoken and writing required (C1+). Occasional onsite visits in Germany are expected.
As part of the documentation team you will contribute to creating, improving, and maintaining high‑quality technical documentation that supports our products and customers. You’ll work with a docs‑as‑code approach, using Markdown and Git for version control and peer reviews, while collaborating closely with developers, product managers, and operations teams. This role combines writing, technical engagement, and process improvement to ensure that our documentation is accurate, user‑friendly, and continuously evolving alongside our products.
Responsibilities
Create and maintain documentation, including service descriptions, tutorials, how‑to guides, and reference manuals.
Write, review, publish, and maintain customer‑facing and platform documentation.
Review and approve merge requests in Git/GitLab as part of the documentation workflow.
Work with stakeholders across programs to align documentation with our style guide and maintain quality standards.
Analyze user needs and tailor documentation to improve usability and product adoption.
Gather information from technical stakeholders to accurately describe features and use cases.
Engage hands‑on with the product to verify technical accuracy and ensure clarity in documentation.
Plan and coordinate documentation deliverables and manage documentation plans, ensuring timelines are met.
Coordinate with internal teams to collect information and feedback.
Oversee documentation deliverables from inception through to publication, ensuring quality and consistency.
Collaborate with operations and other technical stakeholders through Change Approval Boards to align documentation with product releases.
Create user‑friendly and accessible documentation for a range of technical audiences; update content to reflect product updates and enhancements.
Recommend and implement improvements to documentation tooling and processes.
Promote and enforce best practices, templates, and style guides for all documentation activities.
Conduct usability testing to ensure documentation is clear and effective.
Ensure all documentation adheres to organizational and industry standards.
Requirements
Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Technical Writer in a software or technology environment using a docs‑as‑code approach.
Hands‑on experience with Git for version control, review, and publishing.
Proficiency in Markdown (or a similar markup language) using tools like VS Code or JetBrains.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (C1 level or higher).
Understanding of software development practices and methodologies.
Strong technical understanding of cloud‑native PaaS technologies, such as Kubernetes, CI/CD, GitOps, Secrets Management.
Relational/NoSQL Databases, Kafka, Message Brokers.
Experience creating visual documentation assets (diagrams, screenshots, etc.).
Preferred Experience
Experience writing for application developers.
Experience using Docusaurus, MkDocs, or similar static site generators.
Certifications in cloud or cloud‑native technologies.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools (Scrum, SAFe, JIRA, Confluence).
Fluent German and English language (C1 or above).
Eligibility
