Distribution Designer/Engineer
We are seeking a Distribution Designer/Engineer to join our team in North Carolina. This role involves supporting power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm hardening projects. The position focuses on engineering calculations and design for replacing deteriorating cables, transitioning overhead lines to underground, reconductoring existing distribution lines, and replacing aging poles.
Responsibilities
Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices.
Design and plan for the replacement and upgrade of power distribution systems.
Collaborate with teams to ensure projects are completed efficiently.
Communicate with customers to provide updates and gather project requirements.
Skills
Distribution design expertise preferred.
0-2 years of electric utility distribution design experience (open to entry level candidates).
Proficiency with BOUD, Maximo, Smallworld, Bentley Open Utility Designer, and Microstation.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or 2 years of experience in the electric utility industry.
Knowledge of primary and secondary distribution systems and utility standards.
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Additional Qualifications
Preferred 2+ years of experience with the Duke system.
Experience interacting with customers and developers for distribution projects.
Current knowledge of BOUD, Maximo, Smallworld, Bentley Open Utility Designer, and Microstation.
EIT/Passed Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
Job Type & Location Contract to Hire position based out of Wilmington, NC.
Pay & Benefits Pay range: $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
