Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Digital Writer/Editor – Media Relations. In this role, the successful candidate is an experienced copyeditor/proofreader who will join the Media Relations team within the Department of Communications, Marketing, Government and Community Affairs. This position, based in Manhattan, will support teams across the department by providing copyediting/proofreading for a variety of written communications including news releases, web/intranet stories, leadership/internal messages, social media posts, other web content, and various reports prepared by the department. The copyeditor/proofreader will ensure accuracy, correct grammar and language as well as a consistent style across all communications issued by the department.

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Media Relations, this position will play an important role ensuring that internal and external communications issued by NYU Langone and its leadership are clear, accurate, grammatically correct, factually accurate, and possess a consistent look and feel that is aligned with the institution’s overall brand. The position will also provide backup and support when and where needed.

The ideal candidate possesses an excellent understanding of AP style, superior editing skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, make sound recommendations, and elevate appropriately. This individual will also collaborate with the web team to ensure content is optimized for search engines, and work with writers at different levels to constructively edit copy in a collegial environment.

Job Responsibilities

Help develop and utilize a ticketing system to track, prioritize and execute requests, ensuring important and timely requests are completed first.

Ensure continuity between related communications and elevate concerns or issues appropriately through various teams.

Work in close coordination with other teams to ensure adequate coverage during vacations, sick days, or busy periods that require additional copyediting/proofreading support.

Help check easily verifiable facts in communications as an added safeguard.

Recognize the difference between substantial content edits and copy edits so the primary writer’s intent and objectives are not compromised.

Flag inconsistencies between multiple pieces of content that address similar subjects.

Ensure appropriate backup resources are in place when needed.

Operational Excellence

Monitor outcomes and key measures of success to gauge the effectiveness of copyediting operations and adapt or evolve where needed.

Efficiently and effectively execute goals and priorities while adhering to organizational standards for delivering excellent work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.

Five or more years of experience in copy‑editing, proofreading, and fact‑checking in deadline‑driven environments.

Experience with digital editing platforms including MS Word and PowerPoint.

Strong medical writing experience and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Comfortable with digital content channels, including social media.

Familiarity with web publishing.

Highly organized, able to develop and work with systems and processes to ensure accountability and effective tracking of multiple projects.

Seamless ability to triage work based on multiple deadlines, priorities, and stakeholders at various levels.

Experience elevating important matters effectively to senior leadership as appropriate.

Ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in health care, journalism, or higher education setting.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary Range NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state law on salary transparency. The range for this role is $81,325.15 – $140,285.70 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
