Manager Ambulatory Communications – Brown University Health
Reporting to the System Director of Ambulatory Optimization, the Manager of Ambulatory Communications is responsible for a variety of communications that support Ambulatory, Clinical Services, and the Medical Group system-wide. The Manager ensures through regular outreach to appropriate stakeholders that timely, accurate and well-crafted communications are created and implemented for internal and external audiences.
Our ambulatory community spans Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including major hospitals, ambulatory and urgent‑care operations, and ancillary services. The role collaborates with Hospital Operations, IS, HR, Finance, Supply Chain, Case Management, and marketing to drive operational excellence and patient‑focused care.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Manage system-wide communications for Ambulatory staff, provider, and patient engagement.
Ensure accurate, relevant, timely content for ambulatory managers and leaders.
Act as a resource for communications supporting the Ambulatory leadership team’s projects.
Conceptualize, design, and produce high‑impact content for patient and employee engagement.
Work with IT and Digital Teams to optimize patient portal messaging and digital engagement tools.
Support staff initiatives, workflows, recognitions, and innovations across the system.
Serve as “Communicate with Heart” facilitator.
Produce provider communications for workforce well‑being campaigns and recognition programs.
Balance schedule, scope, and budget with senior leaders; raise issues to the System Director as needed.
Drive a wide variety of communication projects across ambulatory.
Support internal and external communications highlighting Brown Health Medical Group, BUH departments, marketing communications, and key department leaders.
Provide regular updates to senior leaders and the System Director on communications efforts, priorities, and hurdles.
Partner with the Sr Analyst, Ambulatory Business Operations to collect and analyze data for metrics.
Establish and manage the ambulatory‑wide communication request process and workflow tools.
Demonstrate strong project management and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Key Accountabilities The role thrives in a matrixed, multi‑layered organization, collaborating with department, system, and senior leadership to align with system-wide goals and facilitate effective communication across all stakeholder departments.
Education Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience
Critical thinker with excellent communication skills.
Skilled writer, knowledgeable of a wide variety of media and social media messaging development.
Adept at project management and data analysis.
Creative, detail‑oriented, results‑driven.
Ability to build strong cross‑functional partnerships with stakeholders across the system.
Proven track record in working cross‑functionally across business units and multidisciplinary project teams.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to influence and guide solutions.
Familiarity with Microsoft tools (Word, Forms, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI) and Epic reporting.
Supervisory Responsibility Provides functional guidance to others assigned on a project basis.
Pay Range $98,065.24 – $161,802.37
