Responsibilities
Provide specialized instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired across multiple school buildings.
Support students in acquiring compensatory skills, including Braille, assistive technology, tactile graphics, and visual efficiency skills.
Adapt and modify curricula, materials, and assessments to ensure accessibility.
Conduct assessments and contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure coordinated support.
Document student progress and maintain compliance with district and state guidelines.
Qualifications
Valid Illinois teaching license with endorsement as Teacher of Students Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired (required).
Experience working with K–12 students with visual impairments preferred.
Strong knowledge of Braille, low‑vision devices, and assistive technology.
Ability to travel between school buildings reliably (required).
Excellent communication, organization, and collaborative skills.
Commitment to supporting student independence and accessibility.
