Position Title Spring Musical Choreographer
Reports To Director of the Spring Musical / Building Principal
Contract Type Supplemental Contract (Seasonal). Supplemental Pay is based on experience. Step 1 - $850.00, Step 2 - $873.00, Step 3 - $895.00, Step 4 - $918.00, Step 5 - $941.00
Work Period Typically January–April (varies by production schedule)
Position Summary The Spring Musical Choreographer is responsible for designing, teaching, and refining all dance and movement elements for the school’s annual spring musical. This position supports the artistic vision of the Director and fosters a positive, inclusive environment where students of varying skill levels can grow, collaborate, and perform confidently.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Director, Music Director, and production team to develop choreography aligned with the show’s artistic vision and student abilities.
Create original choreography for musical numbers, ensemble pieces, scene transitions, and specialty movement as needed.
Teach choreography to the cast during scheduled rehearsals and provide clear, supportive instruction to students.
Adjust and refine choreography throughout the rehearsal process to improve performance quality and ensure safety.
Attend production meetings, auditions, and callbacks as requested by the Director.
Assist in assessing dance ability during auditions and help determine casting placements.
Communicate regularly with the Director regarding student progress, rehearsal needs, and any concerns.
Assist in staging movement for large groups to ensure smooth transitions and stage picture.
Work collaboratively with costume, set, and props teams to ensure choreography integrates safely with production elements.
Attend all dress rehearsals and be available for notes and adjustments leading up to performances.
Maintain appropriate supervision and uphold all school policies during rehearsals and activities.
Qualifications
Experience choreographing for musical theatre, dance teams, show choirs, or related performing arts programs.
Ability to teach movement to students with varying levels of experience and confidence.
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Ability to model professionalism, inclusivity, and a growth-minded approach to student development.
Prior experience in a school or youth theatre environment preferred.
Time Commitment & Compensation
Rehearsal schedule varies based on production needs
Compensation is provided through a supplemental contract following district guidelines.
Working Conditions
Requires after-school, evening, and occasional weekend hours.
Work is performed in rehearsal spaces, auditoriums, and performance venues.
