Cooley is seeking a Senior Practice Group Marketing Manager to join the Marketing team. The Senior Practice Group Marketing Manager for Regional Corporate & Emerging Companies/Venture Capital (“ECVC”) is responsible for directing the development of market analyses, client development and strategic business planning for their assigned market.

Position summary The position includes the following responsibilities:

Strategically advise on market analyses to determine our regional general corporate and emerging companies and venture capital (ECVC) market share and opportunities within the market, and use the intelligence to shape business plans and go‑to‑market strategies.

Present the firm’s competitive positioning in the market by working with team members to conduct research and analysis about our competitors inclusive of lateral activity, thought leadership, events, news/experience and league tables.

Become well educated on local clients and prospective clients by reviewing analyses of financial, experience, marketing client engagement and competitor representation data.

Serve as the marketing subject matter expert for the market.

Oversee priority projects for targeting new business for the regional general corporate and ECVC practice and advise lawyers on strategies for developing business from target companies and relationships.

Work with specialist to develop cross‑selling strategies and oversee specialist in the execution of strategies.

For opportunities coming from regional targeting initiatives and client expansion programs, advise lawyers on new business opportunities and provide support on the development of our approach, team, proposition and supporting materials (i.e., credentials, targeted events, etc.).

Consult with the regional corporate leaders, partners in charge and regional litigation leadership to develop and implement strategic plans and marketing budgets that coordinate with global practice group goals and objectives.

Proactively manage implementation and execution of strategic plans, including periodic meetings and overseeing specialist preparing reports, analysis, and progress monitoring.

Work with local business development team members to develop strong relationships with associations and industry organizations that attract and engage prospective clients, influencers and referral sources in support of business plan goals.

Develop event strategy for market based on market and competitive analyses in support of business plan goals.

Report on the success of activities with key stakeholders and provide recommendations for future.

Strategize with PR team to advance the profile‑raising efforts of the market.

Partner with marketing colleagues to advise on content for regional surveys, specific lawyer and practice awards and accolades.

Support integration of lateral lawyers into general corporate or ECVC practices within the market.

Oversee specialist in maintaining a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, industry conferences, programs, appearances and other market engagement opportunities, and ensure maximum ROI and appropriate coverage from lawyers and BD professionals.

Collaborate and strategize closely with global practice group marketing colleagues to understand additional planned activity in assigned market and to maximize collaboration and ROI on all activities.

Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports and manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests.

Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities and participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events.

Skills and experience

Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required.

Ability to travel, as required.

7+ years marketing‑related experience in the field with 3+ years of management experience in relevant roles. Proven ability to operate at a more senior level in terms of scope of responsibility, judgement and independent nature.

Ability to operate effectively within a matrixed work environment.

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field.

Experience working in a law firm or other professional services organization.

Supervisory experience.

Strong client service ethic and interpersonal skills, capable of working seamlessly with high level partners, marketing staff and colleagues in other administrative departments.

Highly organized, efficient and extremely detailed oriented, with superior proofreading and fact checking skills.

Capable of staying productive and accurate under pressure with tight deadlines.

The expected annual pay range for this position with a full‑time schedule is $180,000 – $220,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skill set of the candidate.
