Design Manager (Remote)
– Sonesta International Hotels
Design Manager will shape the design vision for new builds, renovations, and conversions across the portfolio, ensuring projects meet brand objectives, are operationally acceptable, and adhere to quality assurance measures.
Responsibilities
Ensure proposed designs and specifications comply with brand and project scope, delivering objectives cost‑effectively.
Interpret architectural, design, and engineering drawings and specifications.
Collaborate with stakeholders to keep design standards current for all Sonesta brands.
Develop and update FF&E and construction material programs in partnership with vendors and outside firms.
Work with vendors and design firms to incorporate new performance efficiencies and product developments into brand standards.
Create prototypical layouts for different building types and consult on plan submissions for new build, renovations, and capital projects.
Provide strategic design guidance to ownership groups and consultants, adapting brand standards to unique project conditions.
Partner with owners and franchisees to align design solutions with brand vision and operational goals.
Develop property‑specific Property Improvement Plans for the Sonesta‑managed portfolio.
Review design presentations and plan review sets to ensure Property Improvement Plans and brand standards are met.
Review specifications to confirm brand standard performance specifications are satisfied.
Work with approved suppliers to develop approved shop drawings for new program specifications.
Review final product and construction quality.
Support company initiatives, policies, and guidelines, tracking and reporting on project status.
Identify potential issues and coordinate resolution with key stakeholders.
Ensure success from the perspectives of employees, guests, and owners; collaborate across departments and stakeholders.
Maintain integrity, respect, and a high standard of customer service, modeling company values and guest standards.
Requirements
4‑year degree from an accredited Interior Design program.
NCIDQ certificate preferred; 3+ years of experience designing hospitality projects.
Previous hotel‑brand design experience preferred.
Well‑developed teamwork skills; active partner in a cooperative, accountable team environment.
Experience managing projects across multiple geographically dispersed locations.
Strong business acumen and organizational skills, including attention to detail and prioritization.
Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills; self‑starter with high energy and positive attitude.
Ability to work cross‑functionally with senior management, peers, and entry‑level employees.
Experience in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment with strong prioritization.
Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, and targeted messaging skills.
Proficiency in MS Office Suites (Visio, OneNote, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
Proficiency in project planning tools (Smartsheets, MS Project, ServiceNow, etc.).
Proficiency in space planning and presentational tools (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, etc.).
Additional Job Information Pay Range : $85,000 to $100,000 annually (base pay may vary based on experience and qualifications).
