Fiction Editor

This role is one of three genre editors at The Georgia Review. The Fiction Editor is responsible to the Editor of The Georgia Review for screening submissions, selecting works for publication, attending acquisitions meetings, and editing manuscripts. The position also leads the department’s experiential learning program, administering the program, conducting interviews for interns, leading workshops, and mentoring graduate assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Screen online submissions (poetry, short fiction, and essays), select and secure works for the acquisitions team, and edit assigned manuscripts slated for publication.
  • Administer The Georgia Review’s experiential learning program by conducting interviews, leading workshops, and guiding 6–12 undergraduate interns through hands‑on activities.
  • Mentor graduate assistants and assist with planning, coordination, and publicity of local programs such as lectures and readings.
  • Represent The Georgia Review at local, regional, and national functions as needed.
  • Maintain flexibility and awareness of departmental changes, assuming related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in literature, creative writing, or a related discipline.
  • One to two years of editorial experience with a literary journal of national reputation.
  • Experience working within a higher‑education institution (1–2 years).
  • Experience mentoring or supervising editorial work of graduate students or interns.
  • Thorough awareness of literary publishing and the Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to meet publishing deadlines.
  • Effective copy‑editing skills; ability to establish and maintain relationships with contributors, students, and community members.

Labor and Salary

Employee Benefits: Eligible under the TRS or ORP retirement plan. Advertised minimum salary: $60,000. Anticipated start date: 03/01/2026.
