Technical Writer – Hartford County
The Technical Writer is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining technical documentation for Electro-Mechanical product lines for consumer and industrial customer base. This role works closely with engineering, software development, quality, and customer support teams to translate complex technical information into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation for both internal and external audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Documentation Development
• Create and maintain user manuals, installation guides, quick start guides, service manuals, and product specifications Electro-Mechanical Product lines.
• Develop clear troubleshooting procedures, wiring diagrams, and maintenance instructions.
• Produce release notes, firmware update documentation, and API/technical integration guides.
Process & Compliance
• Ensure documentation meets industry standards, including NEC/UL related requirements where applicable.
• Maintain version control and ensure consistency across all product lines.
• Work with engineering to ensure accuracy of specifications, safety instructions, and regulatory content.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support
• Attend product design reviews to gather technical information and anticipate documentation needs.
• Work with marketing teams to assist with product descriptions, technical content, and diagrams.
• Partner with customer support to update FAQs, troubleshooting flows, and training materials.
Content & Media Creation
• Produce diagrams, exploded views, and visual instructions using tools like Visio, SolidWorks Composer, or similar programs.
• Create how-to videos, training modules, or step-by-step tutorials when needed.
• Maintain a digital library of assets, templates, and style guides.
Qualifications Required
• 3–5 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in electronics, hardware manufacturing, or industrial equipment.
• Strong understanding of technical concepts related to electrical equipment, firmware, and mechanical components.
• Proficiency with documentation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, MadCap Flare, Confluence, or similar platforms.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring schematics, and product requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
Preferred
• Experience documenting Electro-Mechanical Consumer products, industrial controls, or electric/electronic
equipment.
• Familiarity with time-tracking systems, hardware/software integrations, or access control products.
• Experience with CAD or illustration software.
• Knowledge of UL/ETL, NEC codes, or other compliance standards related to electrical products.
