POSITION OVERVIEW The MYP and DP Language and Literature Teacher fosters a love of language and the power of storytelling to connect people across cultures and perspectives. Through engaging, inquiry-based learning, the teacher helps students explore how words shape understanding, identity, and the world around them.

As a member of our diverse international school community in Laos, the teacher actively builds belonging by honoring students’ backgrounds, valuing the Lao host culture, and creating inclusive learning environments where every voice is heard. The teacher models curiosity, empathy, and respect while helping students develop the critical thinking and communication skills essential for success in the IB and beyond.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Teaching and Learning

Teach MYP Language and Literature (Grades [insert grades]) and DP English A: Language and Literature (Standard and/or Higher Level).

Design concept-driven, inquiry-based units aligned with IB philosophy and school values.

Engage students in close reading, analysis, and creative expression across a wide range of global and local texts.

Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and language levels.

Integrate technology and varied media to enhance learning and digital literacy.

Foster a classroom environment that celebrates multiple perspectives and connects learning to the Lao and regional context.

Assessment and Reporting

Develop assessments aligned with MYP and DP criteria that measure both process and understanding.

Provide timely, meaningful feedback that promotes reflection and growth.

Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with students and families.

Collaboration and Professionalism

Work collaboratively with Language and Literature colleagues and interdisciplinary teams to strengthen curriculum coherence and innovation.

Contribute to ongoing curriculum review and professional learning within the IB framework.

Participate actively in school events and initiatives that promote inclusion, community engagement, and intercultural understanding.

Advisory and Co-Curricular Involvement

Serve as a homeroom/advisory teacher, supporting students’ well-being and personal development.

Participate in co-curricular activities, clubs, service learning, or community projects that enrich student experience and connect to the school’s mission.

Student Support and Wellbeing

Foster a classroom environment that values inquiry, respect, and intercultural understanding.

Serve as a mentor or advisor, supporting the academic and personal growth of students.

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide feedback on student progress and achievement.

Professional Responsibilities

Engage in professional growth through reflection, peer collaboration, and ongoing learning about IB philosophy and global education.

Contribute to school life beyond the classroom through service learning, co-curricular activities, or community engagement projects.

Uphold the school’s child safeguarding policy and model ethical, responsible conduct in all interactions

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Education, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience teaching IB MYP and/or DP Language and Literature.

Recognized teaching qualification/licensure.

Minimum of two years’ experience teaching secondary English.

Strong understanding of inquiry-based, student-centered pedagogy.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and intercultural skills.
