Our NYC-based client is seeking a Designer for Hard Home. The main objectives for this role include ensuring that collections deliver strong retail sell‑through and meet margin objectives, while concepts remain trend‑forward, manufacturable, and aligned with brand identity. The role also requires maintaining an organized workflow, ensuring timely hand‑off of files and approvals, and fostering strong creative partnerships across cross‑functional and vendor teams.
Salary range:
$80,000–$90,000
Responsibilities Design & Product Development
Concept, design, and develop new tabletop assortments including dinnerware, serveware, and giftable sets
Create detailed artwork, CADs, 3D models, and color/material specifications for production
Translate macro trends and consumer insights into product concepts that are innovative yet manufacturable
Ensure brand consistency and cohesive design language across seasonal and core lines
Work closely with sales and sourcing teams to meet calendar‑driven deliverables
Manage freelance database to ensure timely on‑trend deliverables as outlined by the Design Director
Assist with showroom development for seasonal markets and trade shows
Drive packaging solutions and concepts for customer presentations
Trend & Market Analysis
Conduct competitive and marketplace research to identify opportunities with key retail partners
Interpret seasonal trend direction into product stories, print/pattern, color palettes, and materials
Build trend presentations, mood boards, and inspiration tools to support internal alignment and retailer pitches
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Product Development, Merchandising, Sales, and Sourcing teams to ensure product feasibility and cost targets
Participate in sample reviews, giving clear design intent and improvement direction to vendors and factories
Support retailer meetings by presenting design direction, concept boards, and physical prototypes
Technical Execution
Build production‑ready spec packages including artwork separations, material callouts, and finishes
Review samples throughout development cycle to ensure alignment with design, quality, and color standards
Maintain design files and version control with exceptional attention to detail
Required Qualifications
BA/BFA in Industrial Design, Product Design, Ceramics, Graphic Design, or related field
2–5+ years tabletop or consumer goods design experience (ceramics required)
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop); 3D design tools a strong plus
Strong understanding of ceramics, glazes, decals, surface treatments, and manufacturing constraints
Excellent sense of color, proportion, and commercial design trends
Ability to manage multiple projects in fast‑paced, deadline‑driven retail cycles (seasonal + core)
Effective communicator with compelling presentation skills
