Job Overview
Founded in 1972, GBS operates locations in North and South Carolina, including its custom millwork division, distributing specialty building products to customers in the Carolinas and parts of Georgia.
The Designer Salary designs and completes layouts of commercial and complex residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing. The position requires complete independent judgment and oversight of structural and architectural design.
Responsibilities
Design commercial and complex residential roof and floor systems and produce layout.
Discuss changes and corrections with engineers, architects and contractors prior to and during construction.
Present, sell and follow up on new jobs.
Prepare roof truss and truss joist layouts.
Coordinate, sell and follow up on new jobs.
Perform job‑site inspections.
Produce materials list.
Determine special notes to append contracts.
Resolve architectural and design discrepancies.
Maintain computer system and perform routine upgrades to ensure accurate and current application.
Assist in the shipping department.
Required for All Jobs
Perform other duties as assigned.
Comply with all policies and standards.
Adhere to Company’s commitment to workplace safety.
Participate in and complete assigned trainings.
Education Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in civil, architectural or design related field required.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Applicable work experience may be substituted for education requirement.
Experience Qualifications
3 years of drafting experience in a construction or building materials-related industry required.
Skills And Abilities
Proficient technical writing skills. Excellent salesmanship and communication skills.
Special knowledge required—Reading and interpreting blueprints in an architectural related industry.
PC literate with Microsoft Office products, AutoCAD and other design programs that facilitate learning in-house program with ease.
