Applicants to this posting will be considered for Elementary Music Teacher positions that become available for the 2025-26 school year.
Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Virginia prior to August 2025.
Position Description / Job Summary The teacher will plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students, creating an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development. The role includes supervising students in various school settings, monitoring and evaluating outcomes, and maintaining communication with students, parents, staff, and community. Instructional plans and materials are developed, selected, and modified to meet diverse needs. The teacher maintains required records, follows procedures, and ensures proper use and care of equipment and facilities.
Responsibilities / Duties / Functions / Tasks
Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
Conduct classes consistently in the assigned locations and times.
Create a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and facilitates achievement of learning objectives.
Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students.
Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
Establish learning objectives aligned with Roanoke County Public Schools’ curriculum framework.
Utilize instructional methods and evaluation techniques that motivate students and enable achievement of objectives.
Take safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintain accurate records as required by law and school policy.
Assist in implementing student life policies and maintain classroom order fairly.
Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required.
Build relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community based on respect for individuals.
Plan and supervise assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
Appraise personal effectiveness and pursue professional competence growth.
Participate in school management and share responsibility for the overall school program.
Stay current on instructional practices, including instructional technology.
Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Job Requirements / Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field of education from an accredited institution.
Collegiate Professional License with an appropriate endorsement.
Positive interpersonal and communication skills.
Physical Requirements Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.
