HDR is looking for a Geotechnical EIT/Designer in one of our five North Carolina offices (Raleigh, Charlotte, Asheville, Winston-Salem, Wilmington). They will typically work under the direction of a licensed PE and be responsible for the geotechnical analysis and design of infrastructure projects including but not limited to roadways, retaining walls, bridges, buildings, dams, soils and rock slopes, asphalt and concrete pavements, etc.
Responsibilities
Travel throughout the Southeast to perform oversight of drilling operations, including logging and classifying soil and rock materials in accordance with applicable standards. Set up field exploration programs and coordinate with subcontractors. Conduct field inspections of construction activities, including earthwork and foundation installations. Have strong oral and written communication skills. Be capable of working independently or in a team environment assisting senior geotechnical staff. Perform assignments exercising judgement in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Preferred Qualifications
MS in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related technical discipline. EIT certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months. Experience with GIS. Familiarity with CAD software (MicroStation). Local candidates preferred. Knowledge of soil mechanics. Familiarity with geotechnical engineering software and Microsoft office programs. Willingness to travel throughout the Southeast, mainly NC. Strong oral and written communication skills. Required Qualifications
