General Description of the Job Class With the use of PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), the Electronic Imaging Technician (EIT) will support physicians, technologists and other medical staff in the acquisition and distribution of digital patient records in the Duke University Health System (DUHS). The EIT works in conjunction with the PACS and Radiology Informatics Team to ensure the maintenance and integrity of the patient’s radiology records.

Duties and Responsibilities

Access and retrieve reports and images via Maestro Care/PACS; create CD/DVDs for customers; import and export image data on CD/DVD, Powershare and other media.

Operate the Digital Media Creator (DMC) equipment to produce CDs/DVDs containing imaging studies in DICOM format; fill requests by pushing DICOM images from PACS to Powershare and vice‑versa; process orders from providers using the Maestro Care Image Library Status Report.

Digitize plain film images using a Digitizer; transfer images to specified DICOM destinations; identify unspecified exams; obtain signed patient authorization as required by DUHS policy.

Communicate professionally through written and spoken means; answer phones, use e‑mail and fax to manage signed documents and requests; coordinate with outpatient clinics, inpatient units, ED, and surgeons.

Complete daily logs and correspondence using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, MaestroCare, PACS, and Powershare; troubleshoot image quality issues and equipment malfunctions; submit timely and effective Service Now requests.

Maintain quality‑assurance procedures for imported and exported image data; manage auditing and tracking tools for the file room; update patient demographics; merge images to studies and update order information per established protocols.

As team lead: manage time cards; participate in the review and hiring process; run PACS queries for unread and unspecified studies; apply basic Excel knowledge to support workflow.

Develop documentation, tracking tools and training materials for the Image Library; respond to legal‑case image requests; communicate professionally and timely in written and oral communication with attorneys, judges and social workers.

Required Qualifications

Education:

Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED; Associate’s Degree preferred.

Experience:

One year of experience in healthcare or PACS support or radiology or customer‑service related field.

Licensure/Certification:

North Carolina Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Effective communication with physicians, nurses, technologists, patient‑service associates, and administrative professionals; high attention to detail and accuracy; ability to work in a high‑volume area while adhering to federal and state regulations and DUHS policy; customer‑service orientation.
