The Systems & Discovery Librarian is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenured, promotion-earning faculty position reporting to the Dean of the Library. The librarian works independently and collaboratively with a team of librarians and staff to manage and optimize library systems, improve resource discovery, and provide instruction and research consultation services to students, faculty and staff. The position focuses on supporting the effective use of information resources, including electronic resources and instructional technology in teaching, learning, and research. The librarian primarily supports the Natural Science Division and plays a key role in overseeing discovery tools and library systems, ensuring seamless access to library materials and providing training to users on navigating these resources.

Responsibilities Systems & Discoverability: Assist in the design, planning, evaluation, configuration, and discoverability of all library systems (e.g., ILLiad, Alma, Primo, Uborrow, Papercut). Serve as the primary point of contact for all issues related to library systems and hardware (e.g., laptops, printers) and work to maximize library technology.

E‑resources: Activate e‑resources in the college library services platform, test and verify access for the NCF community. Ensure access, authentication, and troubleshooting of resources across platforms (Alma, Primo, EZproxy, ILLiad, OCLC WorldCat). Work with technical staff to maintain accurate holdings data, link resolvers, and the discovery system; collaborate with librarians, fiscal liaison, and faculty to determine resource needs, licensing, acquisitions, and renewals; analyze usage statistics and generate reports.

Research & Instruction: Provide individual assistance, instruction, and support with research through appointments, drop‑in, email, and digital channels. Develop instructional materials and classroom instruction on research strategies. Maintain LibGuides and A‑Z list of databases.

Instructional Technology Support: Collaborate with the Director of Learning Resources and the Instructional Technology Support technician to assist faculty with implementation of research and technology tools, facilitate or assist in workshops, and help students use instructional technologies.

Communication & Outreach: Act as a conduit between library and faculty, identify instructional technology needs, and communicate those needs. Plan and conduct programs, events and activities to alert students and faculty to available resources and promote the library’s mission.

Planning & Assessment: Assist in collection development, participate in long‑range planning, program and services development, assessment, and policy development.

Professional Development: Maintain awareness of current professional trends, embrace innovations, learn new skills, contribute to the profession, and provide community service.

Other Duties: Perform other duties as requested by the Dean of the Library, including oversight of the Maker Space, SpringShare Admin, ILS liaison with FLVC, website management, and social media.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Library & Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited institution.

Experience as a professional librarian providing reference/instructional services in an academic library setting.

Experience developing LibGuides, tutorials, and learning objects.
