Assistant Professor of Music, Voice (2 positions):
Tenor
Academic‑year, tenure‑track position in the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music beginning August 2026.
Candidate Responsibilities
Teach applied voice at the graduate and undergraduate level in varied majors including performance, music education, and music therapy.
Teach vocal repertoire or vocal pedagogy at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Plan and supervise student recitals at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Organize and lead weekly vocal studio classes.
Advise doctoral committees, DMA projects, and/or lecture recitals.
Actively contribute to the voice area’s visibility through engagement in professional activities; including maintaining regional, national and international visibility in performance, external masterclasses, music entrepreneurship, conference presentations and publications.
Actively engage in service activities at the school, college, and university levels as well as serving the professional vocal community and the community of Memphis.
Minimum Position Qualifications Candidate Qualifications:
Mezzo‑Soprano or a Contralto, and Tenor voices preferred.
DMA preferred or MM with significant performing experience.
Teaching experience at the graduate and/or professional level with a record of student success and a demonstrated commitment to students’ vocal and artistic growth.
Performance career or research portfolio exhibiting excellence and a high level of national and/or international recognition.
Candidates with expertise across diverse musical styles and performance traditions are especially encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated commitment to and success in recruiting locally, regionally and nationally.
Demonstrated commitment to working with a varied student population.
Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the collective mission, vision, and operating standards of the School of Music.

The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and has a full‑time faculty of 43 with approximately 430 music majors. Degree programs include: Bachelor of Music in performance, music history, composition, music education, music business, recording technology, jazz and studio music performance, jazz and studio music composition/arranging and commercial music; Master of Music in performance, musicology, Orff‑Schulwerk, music education, pedagogy, jazz and studio music, composition and conducting; Doctor of Philosophy in musicology and music education; Doctor of Musical Arts in performance, composition, and conducting.
