Technical Entertainment Maintenance Opportunities (Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure)
Job Summary
Supports Entertainment shows and offerings by performing advanced troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, and repairs of technical entertainment equipment and systems. Involved in modifications, testing, installing, and commissioning of replacement technical entertainment systems. Provides technical and mechanical support for day‑to‑day operations.
Position: Tech I, Entertainment Maintenance Major Responsibilities
Responsible for analysis, troubleshooting and implementation of immediate and long‑term repairs and solutions to improve operational reliability, safety and serviceability of Entertainment equipment and systems.
Responsible for utilizing a systematic approach to researching defective or ineffective parts/systems using technical manuals, technical drawings, and external resources.
Provide accurate data entry and timely communications on tasks, corrective actions and/or repairs made while listing parts required; implement the repairs into department‑utilized tracking system(s). Research and specify parts to replace. Complete any hard‑copy maintenance records or physical logbook entries where appropriate.
Perform job duties as described for the department’s non‑lead job descriptions.
Perform modifications to equipment and systems as directed by Universal Orlando Entertainment.
Communicate and coordinate with other departments or crafts as needed; communicate resource needs and work plans to supervision.
Actively participate in learning opportunities in entertainment technologies for all disciplines.
Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
Associate degree (AA) preferred.
Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university in related field preferred.
Experience
Must possess advanced knowledge of entertainment systems theory as well as practical training and experience.
5–8 years’ experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing entertainment equipment.
5–8 years’ experience in electrical repairs in DC or AC systems, preferred.
5–8 years’ experience in design, installation, or maintenance of A/V & entertainment systems.
Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Florida driver’s license required.
Additional Information
Computer experience with basic knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel a plus; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Advanced knowledge in the set‑up and ongoing maintenance of A/V & Entertainment systems.
Certificates and factory training desired.
Cable terminations and labeling desired.

Position: Tech II, Entertainment Maintenance Job Summary Provides the highly skilled technical knowledge needed to support Entertainment shows and other offerings by conducting field repairs, bench repairs, troubleshooting, testing, installing, and commissioning of technical entertainment equipment and systems. Works across a wide variety of electronic and mechanical platforms, including parade floats, show control, communications, wireless audio systems, lighting, video, large format digital projection, special effects systems, pyro systems, laser systems, and more. Conducts daily venue startups and assessments, performs routine preventative, diagnostic, and corrective maintenance.
Major Responsibilities
Perform diagnostics and repairs to address system failures and provide immediate and/or long‑term corrective actions that will improve operation reliability, safety and serviceability of entertainment show equipment and systems. Involves extensive troubleshooting, referencing technical drawings/manuals, specifications, and researching defective components.
Perform daily, weekly, monthly, semi‑annual, and annual inspections and preventative maintenance on technical entertainment systems and elements. These systems include audio, lighting, video, electrical, laser, and network systems. Inspections and preventative maintenance include testing, cleaning, replacement, and calibration of applicable control circuits/systems.
Provide accurate data entry and timely communications on maintenance tasks, corrective actions and/or repairs while listing parts required and implementing the repairs into department‑utilized tracking system(s). Research and specify parts to replace. Complete any hard‑copy preventive maintenance records or physical logbook entries where appropriate.
Respond to calls for service, show‑down incidents, show element quality repairs, and related issues in adherence with all applicable safety rules and regulations. Initiate and engage in positive interactions with internal partners.
Perform startup and checks of entertainment venues to ensure the technical entertainment show systems and elements are ready for daily operation.
Perform projects and modifications to equipment and systems as directed by Universal Orlando Entertainment.
Utilize company resources to stay current on equipment use in entertainment systems to maintain high show quality.
Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
