Position Overview The Marketing Manager at Shedd is passionate, creative, highly curious, and experienced. This role will oversee and execute the day‑to‑day responsibilities across paid and owned marketing channels at Shedd Aquarium. This position will work with the Director of Digital Marketing to develop marketing strategies that

drive revenue and create engaging experiences

for paid audiences, website visitors and email subscribers. This position will leverage their marketing execution expertise and build strategy knowledge to support the organization’s goals, amplify our mission, impact and offerings, and expand and diversify current and future audiences.

This is a unique opportunity to join a forward‑thinking, hands‑on, results‑driven, and highly collaborative team. This individual will oversee the day‑to‑day management of Shedd’s website, email and paid media requests, as well as ensuring email and web best practices are followed throughout the organization. This role will

live within Shedd’s External Affairs & Marketing (EAM) division

but will work cross‑functionally with other teams such as Ancillary, Learning and Community, Design and Exhibits, Guest Relations, and Development.

This role is responsible for putting together and overseeing marketing campaign strategy proposals for internal teams (clients) at Shedd. This role will lead coordination across PR, social, content and external partners to ensure that the full scope of EAM work is represented within ongoing strategic and tactical plans. The Marketing Manager will consider the audience persona journeys when building campaigns, sharing how EAM will help internal Shedd programs drive awareness, engagement, and revenue for Shedd programs. Once campaigns have been finalized, the Marketing Manager will assist in facilitating, launching and monitoring campaign performance. The Marketing manager will then build EAM campaign recaps, providing data to internal clients on how their campaigns performed.

The right candidate should be comfortable finding innovative ways to drive revenue, engage paid and owned audiences and possess the ability to think both creatively and analytically. This person needs to ensure EAM communication is consistent across the organization, content is on‑brand and tailored for various audiences and key programs are being promoted for consistent year‑over‑year revenue growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrate commitment to Shedd’s vision, mission and values

Marketing Strategy & Execution

Assist in researching and building yearly and ongoing advertising strategies

Ensure tactical execution follows strategic plans

Build and execute CRM, 1st party and email strategies

Assist in communicating strategic and tactical goals to internal teams and external agencies

Assist in the evaluation of tactical plans from agencies

Manage a small team

Monitor performance and accuracy of work

Foster opportunities for learning while encouraging collaboration, teamwork, and professional development amongst team members

Work with the Director of Digital Marketing to develop and track career path training

Ensure team is completing tasks in a timely and efficient manner

Key liaison of the external agencies.

Assisting in a digital agency monthly, recommending tests for campaigns, selecting creative and overseeing the trafficking campaigns.

Aid in traditional agency trafficking and proposal reviews.

Tracking advertising campaigns, reporting against performance, and working closely with the agency to identify areas of improvement and adjustments to optimize campaigns in real‑time.

Work with the Marketing team to identify, build and place tracking pixels when needed.

Managing website content requests and keeping the website content up to date.

Managing website content JIRA intake and tracking all requests to ensure they are done in a timely manner.

Updating existing landing pages on an ongoing basis.

Support advertising landing page strategy

Supporting design in building new landing pages for the website.

Reviewing landing page copy with internal teams and making SEO recommendations (descriptions and long‑tail keywords) to support the discoverability of programs.

Creating and executing external email communications on behalf of the organization.

Oversee and assist in the build and review process of all emails

Manage JIRA intake requests and ensure email best practices are followed

Maintain Master Email Tracker to ensure our audiences receive the optimal number of emails.

Oversee email best practices, elevate when needed.

Ensure marketing emails are sent through the marketing process and elevate when this does not happen and onboard teams who are leveraging different email processes.

Make recommendations to improve emails.

Oversee larger email strategies and implement new email strategies when needed, taking into account the guest/member experience (Pre‑visit, Welcome Series, etc.)

Communication of marketing performance

Create pre‑launch marketing strategies to present to internal clients, leveraging full EAM resources, taking into account awareness, engagement, and revenue with revenue as the key performance indicator.

Partnering across PR, content and social to ensure Marketing proposals are consistent across teams.

Building and sharing post‑campaign analysis with internal teams.

Other responsibilities include

Managing data hygiene across all channels to ensure proper UTM tracking.

Standardized naming conventions across email.

Education Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, or communications

Experience

5+ years in a marketing role or agency experience

At least 2 years’ experience overseeing and coaching direct reports

Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities on tight timelines

Ability to manage up and work with multiple stakeholders across the company

Knowledge of digital marketing, segmentation

Excellent writing and communication skills

Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) tools for the website

Proficiency in the full Microsoft Office suite, especially with Excel and PowerPoint

Experience with Google Analytics and/or other web analytics platforms

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with content management systems (CMS)

Working knowledge of HTML and email software

Knowledge of working with data visualization/BI tools like Tableau, Sisense, and Looker Studio

Experience working on traditional media channels is a plus

Experience placing pixels, tagging and tracking tactics
