Managing Editor – Mid-Atlantic Media
Mid-Atlantic Media, a fast-growing publisher of niche ethnic and community magazine titles, is seeking a Managing Editor to join our team of award-winning journalists.
The primary responsibility is managing a team of staff writers under the supervision of the Group Editor for three respected Jewish publications: Baltimore Jewish Times, Philadelphia Jewish Exponent, and Washington Jewish Week. Familiarity with Jewish community life and culture is strongly preferred. The position is based in our Columbia, Maryland office and is not remote.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled editor with a passion for community journalism to mentor young writers, manage workflow across multiple publications, and help shape content in a digital-first environment.
Responsibilities
Supervise staff and freelance writers to ensure timely, high-quality content for weekly print and daily digital platforms
Edit stories for clarity, grammar, accuracy, and adherence to AP Style and house standards
Fact‑check content, including verifying accuracy of photography and video
Manage editorial workflow to meet production deadlines
Support technical needs related to digital publishing, including troubleshooting minor issues
Serve as a mentor to staff writers, guiding their professional growth and performance
Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in community journalism, including editorial management
Strong editing and proofreading skills with excellent attention to detail
Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of writers
