Marketing Content & Communications Specialist

is responsible for executing marketing strategy through compelling written, visual, and multimedia content that educates, inspires, and engages hobbyists, dealers, and consumers. This position expands beyond traditional copywriting to encompass a wide range of communication and creative functions including the development of instructional and promotional materials, model‑building support, and the production of educational “How-To” videos. A deep understanding of model railroading is critical for success, as this role will translate both technical and creative concepts into clear, engaging, and informative content across a variety of channels. The individual will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including product management, new product development, and creative services to ensure consistent and authentic brand storytelling while communicating technical accuracy.

RESPONSIBILITIES Content Creation & Copywriting

Develop engaging and high‑quality content across multiple channels, including blog posts, articles, videos, catalogs, direct mail, promotional materials, press releases, and email campaigns.

Create both sell copy and technical content that effectively communicates product features, benefits, and use cases to diverse audiences.

Adapt tone and style to align with the Walthers brand voice and suit different audiences and channels.

Research and incorporate hobby trends, modeling techniques, and consumer insights into all content creation efforts.

Video Development & Educational Media

Take the lead role in developing and producing “How-To” videos that educate and inspire modelers — covering techniques, layout ideas, and new product highlights.

Collaborate with internal creative, product, and digital marketing teams to storyboard, script, film, and edit videos.

Ensure videos effectively combine product education with inspirational storytelling to engage both new and experienced hobbyists.

Manage the organization and scheduling of video shoots and coordinate logistics for talent, props, and sets as needed.

Provide hands‑on assistance with model‑building projects for photography, video, or event demonstrations.

Collaborate with the NPD and engineering teams to verify product features and ensure technical content accuracy for manuals and product sheets.

Technical Writing & Documentation

Write clear, concise, and accurate documentation, including instruction manuals, product guides, and technical specifications using consumer‑friendly language that promotes ease of understanding and confidence in product use.

Media Relations & Community Engagement

Support corporate communication efforts by preparing press releases, media kits, and PR materials announcing company news, product launches, and events.

Maintain relationships with industry media, influencers, and hobby communities to increase awareness and drive engagement.

Actively monitor social channels, forums, and online communities, engaging appropriately to represent the Walthers brand voice.

Partner with brand managers and the digital marketing team to align content with scheduled product launches and campaigns.

Manage the content calendar to ensure consistent communication cadence and alignment with marketing priorities.

Assist with corporate communications and cross‑departmental initiatives that support company‑wide storytelling and employee engagement.

REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s degree or higher in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Experienced Model Railroader or demonstrable familiarity with model railroading products, practices, and community.

Proven experience creating and editing written and visual content for marketing, educational, or technical purposes.

Strong creative, storytelling, and technical writing skills with the ability to tailor messaging for multiple audiences.

Basic video production or on‑camera experience preferred (scripting, filming, editing, or presenting).

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.

Strong organizational and project management abilities; capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Proficiency with social media and digital publishing platforms.

Comfortable using TEAMS, ZOOM, online forums, and other digital collaboration tools.

Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and capable of working independently or remotely with minimal supervision.
