Freelance Medical Copy Editor

GW, a leading publishing vendor, is actively recruiting freelance copyeditors for nursing/medical/health science textbooks.

Assignments are made on a project-by-project basis, and we have a steady flow of new projects all year long. The majority of our work follows AMA style, so we need copyeditors who are reliable, experienced, consistent, and flexible.

Project schedules vary, but most projects require editing of 100-250 manuscript pages per week (at a speed of at least 10 manuscript pages per hour).

Main Responsibilities

• Typecode the manuscript for the compositor
• Correct all spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors
• Edit content to match AMA style
• Ensure consistency in word style throughout
• Cross‑check all table, figure, and box citations against the actual tables, figures, and boxes
• Ensure all references (if any) are cited in the text

You will not interact with authors.

Qualifications

• Experience editing textbooks or journals
• Strong proficiency in AMA style
• Robust knowledge of Microsoft Word, including Track Changes, formatting tables, and application or removal of styles
• Strict adherence to deadlines; editing stage has large impact on production
• Ability to work efficiently within a budget
