Based in the nation’s fourth-largest metro area, the position is on the frontlines of our daily report producing stories for our website, social videos and newsletters. The right candidate is obsessed with helping audiences navigate Dallas-Fort Worth roads with smart, useful stories that distinguish us from the competition. And even more excited to launch our transportation newsletter and become a recognizable, go-to source for readers.

What you’ll cover Traffic, accidents and road conditions in a congested region grappling with explosive population and economic growth
The ins and outs of traversing the region’s complex system of highways and public transit with quick-hits, enlightening pieces and insightful enterprise
The increasing costs of travel in and around Dallas-Fort Worth, from fuel prices to the latest trends in vehicles
The transportation impacts as Dallas-Fort Worth’s population growth pushes commuters outward, stresses resources and tests the patience of residents
Technology advances in autonomous vehicles, electrification, AI and other trends that will shape the future of commuting in North Texas
Responsibilities Cover breaking transportation stories with speed and clarity
Dig deeper to find the angles others miss, elevating spot news into compelling enterprise
Write headlines that draw in audiences
Use social media, analytics and digital tools to inform and amplify your reporting
Build and maintain a wide network of sources across transportation and government
Work collaboratively with colleagues on the business, news and visuals teams
Tell stories in a variety of formats, including social videos to engage audiences
Turn complex financial and legal developments into clear, accessible reporting for a broad audience
Anchor a weekly transportation newsletter and build a connection with readers
What we’re looking for Exceptional speed, accuracy and judgment when covering developing stories
A strong, versatile writer able to craft everything from quick-turn briefs to in-depth next-day stories
A high metabolism for news, with strong SEO and digital audience instincts
Eagerness to get into the community, build sources and bring untold perspectives into the spotlight
Open records requests and investigative tactics to push beyond surface-level reporting
Collaborative work in a newsroom that values teamwork, creativity and innovation
Familiarity with the Dallas-Fort Worth landscape is a plus
Fluency in Spanish is an advantage
