The First Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking qualified candidates for immediate Court Reporter openings. Court Reporter positions are under the direction and supervision of the District Court Administrator as the Chief Judge’s designee and can be assigned to report on proceedings with any judge in any county in the First Judicial District.
The starting salary for new State of Iowa Judicial employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. Adjustments may be made if the successful applicant has relevant experience.
Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00A – 4:30P
Multiple positions are available in Northeast Iowa

Key Responsibilities Captures court testimony and proceedings
Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request
Prepares transcripts, performs general office work
Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings
Performs related work as determined by Judge, Chief Judge or designee
Electronic document filing required in all counties within the District
May be required to work for any Judicial Officer in the District per operational needs

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the To Apply section.
Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency)
Must meet one:
Be a registered Professional Reporter (RPR) from the National Court Reporters Association.
Be a Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR) from the National Verbatim Reporters Association.
Completed a court reporter training program.
Special Requirements Must obtain an Iowa Certified Shorthand Reporter license within one year of employment. Certification must remain current.
The Court Reporter will purchase and maintain court reporting software and stenotype machines and/or verbatim recording equipment.
