Particle is a startup based in the San Francisco Bay Area, reimagining the daily news experience. We are developing a mini crossword that combines the joy of wordplay with news, so users can spend a few minutes doing something fun while learning something new. We're looking for a part-time Crossword Editor to help shape, refine, and elevate these puzzles.
You'll be working with a small, product-minded team (ex-Twitter, Tesla, Periscope) that values clarity, curiosity, and speed, and you’ll report directly to Particle’s CEO.
What you’ll do:
Use Particle’s AI tools to generate, edit, and polish daily mini crosswords
Ensure puzzles are fresh, fun, and grounded in the news, culture, and trends
Maintain consistency in tone, difficulty, and style across puzzles
Collaborate with our product team to improve puzzle logic, balancing difficulty, and hint systems
Advise Particle on future game design and ideas
Key requirements
Puzzle-obsessed: You solve crossword puzzles regularly and understand grid constraints, clue types, and solving psychology. You also deeply understand the landscape of modern and popular crossword games
Experience editing or constructing crosswords
Impeccable command of English: clever, precise, and tuned to tone
Experience with LLMs: You have a feel for AI’s strengths and weaknesses when it comes to language, logic, and nuance
Passionate about news, culture, and trends
Comfortable working asynchronously in a fast-moving startup
This is a part-time role (approximately 5-10 hours per week). We welcome both local and remote candidates that are authorized to work in the U.S.
