The role involves writing explainers, Q&A, fact checks, answering locally trending questions, and contributing to breaking news. Boise offers a high quality of life with outdoor recreation, arts, and vibrant downtown culture, making it an attractive place for journalists. In This Role Live within 35 miles of Boise City Hall. Pitch stories that resonate across the region. Write stories quickly in user‑friendly formats. Identify community questions and find answers. Collaborate with journalists on major news events. Demonstrate versatility, initiative, and SEO savvy. Work in a team environment, both virtually and in person. Enthusiasm for a team‑centered environment and willingness to collaborate on shared bylines. Willingness to learn audience development skills such as digital headline writing and Google Trends. What You’ll Bring 1–3 years of reporting or writing experience. A college degree or equivalent work experience. Strong reporting and writing skills with a focus on stories that matter to readers. Flexibility and speed in responding to evolving news events. Excellent news judgment and journalism ethics. Passion for utility journalism. Track record of community engagement and audience‑centered reporting. Deep understanding of local reader interests and needs. Willingness to engage in multimedia storytelling, including vertical video. Familiarity with Google Trends, social media, public‑records requests, and data. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Knowledge of measuring success with metrics and analytics. Willingness to cover a variety of topics. Track record of innovation, learning, and using new technologies, especially AI. Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license with required insurance.
