The Work: Library assistants are first and foremost representatives of the library. You will be working at the library’s public service desks as a member of a team to provide excellent customer service. You will also be required to become a passport acceptance agent (training provided). Duties include but are not limited to: patron assistance at the circulation desk (checkout, discharging, renewal, patron registration, settling fines, etc.); some patron assistance at the children’s desk and adult services desk as needed; shelving; searching for materials in the catalog and on shelves; packing for interlibrary loan deliveries; and other duties as required. Light lifting and bending required. There is always something that needs to be done, so this is not a job for the inherently lazy.
