Pay: $20.51 per hour.
Work Schedule: Schedule w/i Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm,20-30 hours per week with no more than 1,000 hours per year

The Overdose Prevention Graphic & Multimedia Designer proactively implements communications strategies to reduce overdoses and overdose deaths in communities for the OD2A Grant. This prevents disease and protects the public from health threats. The position works with Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) staff and Sedgwick County Strategic Communications to design educational presentations, trainings, videos, brochures, posters, and website graphics to reach Sedgwick County businesses and residents in communities within the County. This position will provide support during public health emergencies.
Responsibilities
Produce educational materials to reduce overdoses and overdose deaths
Work with SCHD staff and Health Communications team to design educational presentations, trainings, videos, brochures, posters, website graphics, and social media
Reach businesses and residents in all areas of Sedgwick County and in priority populations
Ensure work meets expectations of timeliness, accuracy, understandability, and readability, and standards of culturally and linguistically appropriate materials
Communicate with the Health Communications team and with supervisor
Coordinate public messaging with SCHD staff and Sedgwick County Strategic Communications
Create and review SCHD Communications policies and procedures

Ensure communication with the public is effective, equitable, understandable and respectful
Work with SCHD or other County subject matter experts to obtain information and edit content as appropriate for the audience
Research; develop story or content ideas; edit and rewrite material; correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax to improve readability; recommend changes in content, style organization, and appropriateness
Add design and artwork to reports and other documents according to County brand standards, cultural competencies and health literacy guidance

Adhere to all Sedgwick County brand standards as managed by Strategic Communications
Effectively coordinate information and work related to projects, including schedules, tasks, and issue tracking
Run project team meetings and work sessions
Document work
Communicate with team members
Manage changes in projects and identify alternate plans
Communicate resource needs and any challenges to supervisor
Drive to locations for meetings and production of materials
Track and document time for grant compliance
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Communications, Public Health, Health Education, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Art or related field. Education may be substituted for experience, with one year of education for one year of experience. One year of graphic design experience. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must complete Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) IS 100 and 700 courses within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
One year of work in a public health department or medical clinic. One year of work experience with risk communications or public health emergency preparedness. Two years of website editing experience. One year of video production skills. Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Education, Art or related field.
