Overview Library Assistant II - Special Collections & Archives Southeast Missouri State University Salary: Depends on Qualifications Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 202500354 Location: Cape Girardeau, MO Department: Kent Library Closing: Position Summary The Library Assistant II works closely with other library faculty and staff to provide user services and manage collections. The Library Assistant II reports to the Special Collections & Archives Librarian. Primary Responsibilities Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) acquires, preserves, and makes accessible resources and research materials that document the history of southeast Missouri and Southeast Missouri State University. The unit is led by the Special Collections & Archives Librarian and also includes an Associate Archivist, as well as a graduate assistant and 3-5 student workers. This position focuses on supporting user discovery of, and access to, SC&A resources. Provide one-on-one information, collection, and other assistance to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community patrons Participate in staffing the SC&A reference desk and interact with patrons in-person and via phone/email Create digital reproductions of materials for patrons Carry out and oversee data entry in SC&A collections management system Provide administrative support to SC&A, including supply inventory and file maintenance Manage archival materials shelving and collection maintenance processes Share in training and managing SC&A student employees Assist with physical and virtual exhibit creation, set-up and take-down Assist with SC&A events, collections acquisition, and tours of the unit Required Qualifications High school diploma One year of related work experience Experience with, and an understanding of, excellent customer service Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Demonstrated ability to work successfully independently and as part of a team Evidence of excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new processes and tools Evidence of research experience Basic computer proficiency Required Information & Deadline Application Deadline: To ensure full consideration, application materials must be received by November 07, 2025.
