Position: Seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Landscape Designer (Designer) and collaborate in growing the design department. The position will be semi‑remote, requiring the Designer to work mostly from home with visits to job sites throughout the design process. This role involves a diverse set of responsibilities outlined below. The Landscape Designer will report to the Lead Designer and work closely with the Senior Designer and Design Assistant. The ideal candidate will have a passion for ecological design, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate proficiency in various design software and methodologies.

Responsibilities

Engage in client consultations, capturing the client's requirements and aspirations through detailed note‑taking to inform the design direction.

Conduct site assessments with the Design Team using various surveying techniques ensuring all detail is recorded clearly.

Craft comprehensive basemaps using SketchUp and Layout, adhering to Mariposa standards.

Actively participate in design charrettes, collaborating with team members to brainstorm creative solutions and generate innovative design concepts under the guidance of the Lead Designer.

Utilize water harvesting strategies to design gardens that keep water on the property.

Using SketchUp, trace conceptual designs to calculate square footage for estimating bids under the direction of the Project Manager.

Using Notability, assist in refining concept drafts into polished plans by incorporating detailed graphics and annotations following Mariposa’s graphic standards.

Produce sections, elevations, and perspectives to convey design intent.

Utilize the Mariposa presentation template to assemble concept presentations, incorporating relevant photos sourced from the Google Drive database as needed.

Attend and actively engage in concept presentations, making necessary notes for reference and follow‑up.

Under the Lead Designer's guidance, revise final landscape plans with polished graphics and concise annotations.

Under the guidance of the Lead Designer, produce construction documents utilizing SketchUp, LayOut, and Notability.

Complete any necessary permit applications and draft permit drawings under the direction of the Lead Designer.

Lead design layout in the field.

Foster clear communication with field crews to ensure accurate implementation of the design.

Assist with plant layout under the direction of the Senior Designer.

Contribute to the development and enhancement of the Design Standards of Practice, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

Ability to generate clear construction documents with strong graphic skills.

3-7 years of experience working at a design‑build company or in a landscape architecture firm.

Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field preferred.

Proficiency in software tools such as SketchUp, Layout and Notability.

Proficiency in hand‑sketching on an iPad.

Exemplary communication and collaboration skills, coupled with an unwavering attention to detail and professionalism.

Proven ability to thrive both autonomously and within a collaborative team environment, showcasing adaptability and resilience in dynamic settings.
