EIA & Environmental Assessment Management Technical Director Location: Birmingham (or flexible across the UK)

Salary: Broad Salary Range dependant on experience

The role This is a senior-level opportunity for an ambitious and influential Environmental Assessment professional to join a nationally respected consultancy in a Technical Director role.

You’ll provide strategic leadership and drive technical excellence across Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Assessment Management (EAM) disciplines, shaping how projects are delivered at scale and with purpose.

You’ll work nationally across major infrastructure programmes, lead multi-disciplinary teams, grow technical capability, and act as a visible ambassador for the discipline both internally and externally.

Whether based in Birmingham or from another UK office, this role provides the opportunity to influence some of the UK's most critical projects, while growing a team and driving innovation in a forward-thinking business.

Your responsibilities as Technical Director - EIA & EAM

Provide strong technical leadership and assurance across EIA and environmental assessment workstreams

Act as an ambassador for EIA and EAM internally and externally, engaging with clients and influencing the market

Lead and grow a high-performing, national EIA / EAM team, developing future talent and capabilities

Champion innovation, digital delivery, and technical excellence across project portfolios

Coordinate specialist resources across regional teams, ensuring quality and efficiency

Deliver high-quality outputs and ensure robust technical governance across all environmental services

Collaborate closely with the Professional Head of Discipline and senior leadership to align capability with current and future workload

Drive strategic service line development in collaboration with other technical leads

Support and lead major bids, proposals and market-facing initiatives

Manage client relationships at a senior level, enhancing reputation and unlocking new opportunities

Monitor and enhance service delivery, responding to client feedback and setting best practice

Promote technical excellence across the wider AtkinsRéalis network, including thought leadership and public engagements

What they're looking for from a Technical Director

A subject matter expert and inspirational leader in EIA and / or environmental assessment

Degree or Master's in an environmental or science-based discipline

Chartered (CEnv / IEMA / CIWEM / CIEEM or similar) for 10+ years, with 15+ years of relevant experience

A strong background in environmental consultancy, ideally with experience on major infrastructure projects

Proven experience managing and growing high-performing, multidisciplinary teams

Strong commercial awareness with experience managing governance, resource planning and fees

Skilled at developing client relationships and delivering repeat business

A confident communicator and natural mentor who inspires others

Able to balance strategic vision with delivery oversight

Passionate about innovation, sustainability, and technical advancement

Flexible, adaptable, and proactive with a collaborative mindset
