Job Summary One full‑time Public Information Assistant (Marketing and Events Assistant) is needed to support the public information program for the Department of Chemistry at Oregon State University. The role works with administrative staff and faculty on public‑facing information, policy, and procedural issues, and serves as the primary media contact and events coordinator for the department.

Key Responsibilities

60% PUBLIC RELATIONS and MEDIA:

Assist with development and maintenance of the Department of Chemistry marketing materials, manage social media accounts, website, and media. Provide input to administration and faculty on planning and production of informational materials, ensuring compliance with OSU policies and copyright laws. Create web announcements, feature stories, and maintain a digital archiving system for all footage.

30% EVENT COORDINATION:

Coordinate department events, including meetings, seminars, celebrations, and conferences. Handle travel, lodging, venue reservations, transportation, catering, and promotion. Track spending and report quarterly.

10% OTHER DUTIES:

Responsible for small approved purchases for swag and handouts at events. May provide lead work to students as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, or a closely‑related field.

Excellent computer and video management skills.

Experience developing and maintaining web pages.

Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse audiences and promote access and inclusion to public events and programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing social media accounts and marketing materials for a university department.

Knowledge of OSU Branding Policy and ADA accessibility requirements.

Strong writing, editing, and graphic design skills.

Working Conditions / Schedule

Work Monday‑Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm in the Departmental Administrative office with an 1‑hour lunch break and two 15‑minute breaks.

May require work outside the above hours to attend and record special events.
