The
Stickney-Forest View Public Library District
located in Stickney, IL seeks a customer service-oriented individual to fill the position of Youth Services Associate. Our Youth Services and Teen Department serves children aged birth through high school.
The ideal candidate will be energetic, resourceful and able to assist with planning and conducting programming. This part time position requires day, evening and weekend availability. This position also requires desk coverage duties, including good communication and organizational skills, answering of basic reference and readers advisory questions, and working independently as well as a part of a team. Computer skills are a must. Previous experience working with children of all ages and their caregivers desired.
Responsibilities and Job Functions:
Provides excellent customer service through reference and reader’s advisory for children and their caregivers.
Assists with the use of electronic resources such as databases, eBook platforms, and the online catalog.
Develops, plans, and implements creative and dynamic programming for children birth-high school, as well as their caregivers.
Assists in publicizing events through flyers and social media.
Communicates library policies and procedures to patrons in an accurate and courteous manner.
Assists the Department Head of Youth Services in collection development by weeding various collections on a rotating basis and providing suggestions for purchase.
Facilitates Outreach to local organizations and schools.
Maintains a working knowledge of children’s literature and its trends.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Undergraduate Degree or LTA required. Master’s preferred.
Two years of public library experience preferred
Working knowledge of computerized integrated library system and is able to complete basic reference transactions including the placement of holds.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Competent communication skills—telephone and in-person.
Must have valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable vehicle
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
Exercise reasonable and independent judgment and discretion.
Capable to adapt to and effectively implement change.
Ability to work on a team and independently.
Ability to maintain library policy and procedures.
