What You'll Do The Quad Preparatory School is looking for a special education Drama and Creative Writing Teacher for our Upper School (grades 6‑12). The teacher will provide drama, creative writing instruction, and social‑emotional support to students in collaboration with our clinicians and academic administrators.
Plan and implement differentiated, high‑quality lessons that meet students’ needs.
Assess students regularly, adapt instruction, and communicate results to parents.
Embrace the school’s philosophy for twice‑exceptional children.
Collaborate with psychosocial teachers on integrated executive‑functioning programs.
Map and evaluate curriculum.
Maintain an orderly, aesthetic learning environment responsive to social, emotional, and executive‑functioning needs.
Keep accurate student work portfolios documenting progress.
Empower students with scaffolding, modeling, and a high expectation for success.
Collaborate on cross‑curricular, inquiry‑based projects.
Communicate with parents about academic and social‑emotional progress.
Adhere to school policies and promote the mission.
Use Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets).
Attend faculty meetings and required special events (Open Houses, Curriculum Night, Carnivale).
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, theater, creative writing, or related field.
Training/experience teaching drama or creative writing.
One year of paid teaching experience with middle/high school or college students.
Preferred Education and Experience
At least three years experience as a drama or creative writing teacher.
Master’s degree in a related field.
Special education training (gifted education, twice‑exceptional youth).
Secondary, art education, and/or special education teaching credential.
Experience teaching twice‑exceptional youth.
Work Environment The role is in a school setting on the 5th and 6th floors with elevators. It requires regular walking around campus and occasional travel to the Lower School campus.
Physical Demands Talking, listening, standing, walking, climbing stairs. Occasionally lifting or moving items under 20 pounds. Typing required. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
Position Type and Hours Full‑time exempt position in an educational facility, open 8 am–4 pm. Faculty work ten months per year (late August to late June) with occasional evening or weekend events (at least three per year).
Compensation and Benefits Dependent on experience and degree. Full‑time staff have access to medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, transit, DC FSA, 401K match, student loan repayment, professional development, tuition waiver for a certificate program, and involvement in wellness groups and diversity initiatives.
