Full Time Library Assistant - Mercer County Library System, Lawrence HQ Branch
Job Description :
This is a 35 hour per week position that includes one evening per week, rotating Saturdays and Sundays throughout the school year. Please remember that the Lawrence HQ Branch is one of four branches open on four Mercer County-observed holidays and as such, the successful candidate will be required to be available to work some of these.
The successful candidate will have excellent customer service skills and a willingness to be a part of a team environment while working with a diverse public. Computer proficiency is required, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Working knowledge of Symphony library software is also a plus. Candidates should also exhibit a strong sense of friendly professionalism, flexibility, efficiency, and should contribute new ideas that will help the branch and larger library system to better serve its community.
Typical Responsibilities
general circulation desk duties
processing patron hold requests and reports
assisting patrons with locating library materials
answering the branch telephone
shelf reading
emptying the book drop
assisting in repairing library materials
creating displays and shelving as needed
Participating in the library’s social media campaigns
writing occasional blog posts as required
participation in outreach events
an awareness of the library’s physical and digital resources, including how to assist patrons with general information about the library’s app and other electronic services

This title is civil service and affiliated with the AFSCME Local 2287. The salary range, which is W02, is $33,683 to $45,221 in eight steps.
