Job Summary The Aerospace University (AU) is seeking a creative learning professional to devise strategic approaches for learning needs and performance development opportunities. With a strong background in training design, development, facilitation, and instruction, the Instructional Designer (Instructional Designer Staff III) is responsible for creating learning programs in support of business operations, finance, software, project management, and related development needs.
This tech-savvy, self-motivated individual will have experience developing instructor-led training, virtual learning, eLearning, and on-the-job programs with a focus on learning modules that can be scaled across The Aerospace Corporation and adapted to a variety of learning styles. The Instructional Designer will partner with the Aerospace University team, subject matter experts, and others to create an impactful learning experience for participants.
The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA or Chantilly, VA.
What You’ll Be Doing
Utilizes sound Instructional Design theories, models, and standards to ensure development and delivery of effective learning activities and solutions.
Works with subject matter experts to design, develop, and deploy eLearning and face-to-face or virtual instructor-led sessions using adult learning principles to enhance the learning experience.
Develops relevant videos, audio, and images; creates role and subject-based curriculum and learning paths from existing content; composes effective advertisements, ad copy, instructional text, audio/video scripts, visual program maps, job aids, and other business communications.
Creates solid visual aesthetics and ensures cohesiveness and completeness in deliverables.
Manages complex learning-related initiatives as a business partner with internal and external customers; creates detailed lesson and project plans, communicating changes to AU leadership throughout the design process.
Facilitates and delivers in-person and virtual courses on a variety of business topics that support the strategic business needs; creates supporting resources as needed.
Collaborates with AU leadership on budget for portfolio design, development, and delivery; allocates funds to subject-matter-experts, vendors, and trainers; monitors time and expenses to ensure they do not exceed budget; requests additional funds as needed with business justification.
Collaborates with AU leaders and stakeholders across the Corporation to determine annual development priorities for Aerospace; responds to change management needs to support future iterations and updates to learning programs.
Collaborates with AU leaders to create and execute an effective communication strategy for business programs leveraging available communication channels, platforms, and technology.
Reports out portfolio key accomplishments, milestones achieved, planned projects, student participation levels, and progress towards AU goals on a quarterly basis.
Manages relationships with technical subject matter experts, educators, vendors and schedules planning and design brainstorming check-in status meetings with subject-matter-experts.
What You Need to be Successful - Instructional Designer Staff III Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning, Education, Business, or related field
Six or more years of experience in Instructional Design or Learning Development
Experience developing learning solutions and deliverables based on knowledge of learning methodologies, cognitive science, user-centered design research
Skill in designing blueprints, schematics, or other visual representations of learning solutions (i.e., wireframes, storyboards, mock-ups)
Experience developing online courseware using Storyline, Captivate, or equivalent industry-standard e-learning development tools
Experience using collaboration technology such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams
Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
How You Can Stand Out
Advanced degree in Human Resources Development, Instructional Design, Adult Learning, Education, Business, or related field
Experience in the field of learning to include learning design, learning operations, classroom facilitation, or primary/secondary/post-secondary education environment
Experience facilitating training for corporate audiences
Experience with Articulate Storyline (or other industry standard course authoring tools)
Professional certifications such as Certified Professional in Learning & Performance (CPLP)
Experience with systems (i.e., Cornerstone, LinkedIn Learning, Workday)
Experience sourcing vendors for delivery, evaluating vendor content for licensing purposes
