About the Position This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Marketing & Design Specialist supports Dedman School of Law’s marketing and communications initiatives through creative design, publication management, and production coordination. This position develops visually engaging materials across print and digital channels, manages high-profile publications and event materials, and ensures all designs align with SMU brand and accessibility standards.

Essential Functions

Design and produce print and digital materials, including brochures, flyers, handbooks, banners, signage, and event programs.

Assist with layout and production for major law school publications such as The Quad alumni magazine, Distinguished Alumni Awards (DAA) program, and the graduation program.

Coordinate timelines, printing estimates, and purchase orders; manage relationships with printers, photographers, and freelance designers/writers.

Prepare digital versions (e.g., Calameo flipbooks) and coordinate mailing lists for distribution.

Manage design files and maintain organized archives in SMU Box.

Support leadership in cutting-edge website design and digital content layout.

Work with Communications and Social Media Coordinator to create graphics and visual assets for social media, email campaigns, and campus digital displays.

Produce and edit innovative videos for web content and motion graphics assistance for social media videos, website videos, event videos, and annual videos (e.g., Year in Review, Raggio Lecture Series).

Design and produce event materials including invitations, PowerPoint presentations, signage, directional displays, and branded templates.

Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to ensure cohesive visuals for events and digital promotion.

Support Alumni Relations and Admissions with creative assets for recruitment and donor events.

Obtain and manage payment of vendor invoices and ensure these align with the overall approved budget.

Ensure all creative work aligns with SMU’s brand standards and accessibility guidelines.

Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor’s is required, ideally with a concentration in Marketing, Design, Public Relations or related fields

A minimum of two years of work experience in a marketing-related role

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Adobe Creative Cloud, written communications, and video skills are required. Videography, photography, and Sitecore CMS system skills are preferred.

Candidate must have the ability to attend/participate in some evening or weekend events as needed.
