Classification Summary Under general supervision of the Public Information Officer/Marketing Supervisor, performs a variety of communications and marketing functions to assist the City in creating and managing external communications related to initiatives and services to our diverse community and developing internal strategies.

Work Schedule Full-time, Monday through Friday. Early mornings, evenings and weekend work may be occasionally required. Exempt under FLSA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Create compelling communications materials and content for internal and external audiences to enhance the organization’s brand.

Plan, design, and edit various materials including flyers, social media graphics, e-newsletters, brochures, advertising, web page graphics and other related items.

Backup Public Information Officer/Marketing Supervisor in absence, prepare and disseminate information to public and maintain media relationships.

Support maintenance and ADA accessibility of the City’s internal and external web pages and optimize site structure, design and content.

Plan, produce, and manage content on electronic and social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn).

Manage department records throughout the lifecycle in compliance with the City’s Records Retention requirements.

Attend Kennewick City Council meetings and workshops held Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, or a closely related field preferred. Requires two or more years of specialized/technical training in Graphics Arts or Marketing and three or more years of previous experience involving significant interaction with the general public, preferably in a customer service capacity.

Required Qualifications

Must pass a criminal background investigation.

Must maintain a level of mental and physical fitness required to perform the essential functions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Modern principles and practices of public information, media relations, marketing, and communications.

Advanced research on organizational policies, procedures and best practices.

Conceptual design, page layout, freehand, photographic, computer techniques and equipment.

Graphic design software and analytics platforms.

Implement public information and community relations strategies and continuous improvement of operations.

Research program documents and narrative materials and develop reports.

Organize and prioritize multiple projects and tasks independently and meet deadlines.

Regular attendance and punctuality.

Physical Requirements Must regularly talk, hear/listen, see/observe, sit, stand and walk; demonstrate fine motor skills; occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force.
