Part Time Library Technical Assistant
The Blinn College District is searching for a Part Time Library Technical Assistant at our Brenham Campus.
Job Summary To provide a variety of efficient clerical and technical library duties.
Principal Accountabilities
Maintains circulation and reserve desk using library software, checks materials in and out.
Collect fines and assess fees for lost materials and maintain financial records as needed for the library and business office.
Creates and maintains patron records and accounts. Protects privacy of patron records and accounts as per state and federal laws.
Operates and maintains library equipment; makes minor repairs; reports major repairs; inventories and requests office supplies.
Assists student and other library patrons in person, by email and telephone calls. Answers basic reference questions or refers patron to librarians.
Instructs patrons in using library resources and equipment; assists students in using computers and print systems.
Participate in the training and supervision of student workers.
Maintains decorum in the library to foster a study-friendly atmosphere.
Generates notices and reports using library software. Records, compiles, and totals library use and collection statistics.
Participates in inventory and maintenance of the library collection.
May manage statistics & reports of long overdue, missing & withdrawn items.
May manage records in ILS, maintaining accurate records of long overdue, missing and withdrawn items.
May place materials on reserve and consult with faculty on reserve materials.
May search new book orders for possible duplication; receives shipments and checks for discrepancies; inputs order data; processes and repairs materials; withdraws outdated materials.
May check-in periodicals and create records using MARC coded holdings and automated serials system. Maintain subscriptions, place claims, fill gaps, and work with serials vendors.
May coordinate loans of materials and document delivery among campuses using ILS, email and other automated systems. Provide inter-library loan services for faculty and students using ILL software.
May assist with materials acquisition, cataloging and processing. Enters data in catalog records. Performs copy cataloging and short record cataloging using automated procedures and MARC tags; orders and loads MARC records; checks ILS reports.
May be scheduled to work some weekends and evenings.
Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications High School diploma or GED

Performs tasks such as computer data entry with accuracy.
Demonstrates ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Demonstrates ability to learn and use the library software, online catalog and databases.
Ability to use and demonstrate to others how to use computers, copy machine, printers, scanners, microfiche/microfilm reader and printer, and other office equipment.
Creates and modifies documents & spreadsheets using Microsoft Word and Excel.
Physical ability to stand, bend, lift books and push carts.
Maintains personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work and achieves results with little oversight.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of college education.
Two years' experience as a library paraprofessional.
Demonstrated knowledge of library software
Preferred Competencies Special Notes To Applicants This is a part time position, maximum of 19 hours per week.

Monday 6:15 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Tuesday - Wednesday 6:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Thursday 5:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Saturday 11:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
