Description The City of Richmond Public Library seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic, and hardworking person to join its team as a
Library Technician, Senior - Hull Street Branch, Richmond Public Library . The incumbent will be a self-motivated individual who is a self-starter, excellent communicator and listener, team player, problem solver, and most importantly, exudes good customer service. The selected candidate will join a dynamic team of individuals focused on providing excellent, prompt, and accurate services to both external and internal customers while achieving the following mission:
Inform, Enrich, Empower.
This position is responsible for serving as the lead for circulation services for the Richmond Public Library. This position is required to work days, evenings, and weekends (Saturday and Sunday) schedule on a rotating basis.
We are also committed to individual, professional growth! The selected candidate will have the opportunity to attend applicable training and educational workshops.
Duties
Creates, updates and maintains library user records
Issues library cards
Charges/discharges library materials
Plans, directs, and manages daily workflow of circulation functions
Provides information to library users by phone and/or in person
Prepares periodic and routine financial and statistical reports for the assigned library
Directs the return of materials to the proper order on the shelves
Assists in training circulation staff and volunteers as directed by the branch manager
Tabulates and properly accounts for all monies received by the library branch
Accounts for and prepares weekly deposits of all monies received by branch
Serves as administrative support lead of an assigned library or unit for daily operations
Coordinates and performs office work; oversees work completion
Participates in staff development and training when offered and ensures staff participates
Collects overdue fines and other fees from customers
Performs data entry, enters, maintains, and updates library materials
Maintains computer catalog
Assists with staffing needs at other locations
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Special Certifications And Licenses The incumbent has considerable understanding of library cataloging and classification systems as well as electronic databases and related software application. This individual has the basic math and accounting skills. The incumbent is comfortable using computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). The incumbent knows how to use the standard office equipment’s. The incumbent has knowledge of cash register procedures. The individual can follow the City Library’s circulation procedures and policies. The selected candidate understands the proper telephone etiquette.
The individual can demonstrate skills on excellent customer service, great interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills. The incumbent can communicate with various internal and external departments as well as calling patrons with requested items. The incumbent can demonstrate to make decisions on when to charge patrons for damaged materials.
This individual can demonstrate the ability to follow standard procedures and established practices. The incumbent can exhibit professionalism and be courteous. The incumbent can maintain accurate records and pay attention to detail.
Minimum Training And Experience
High School Diploma or GED
Three (3) years of public library related support experience
An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
