New York: Junior-Level Landscape Designer
Join our team at SWA/Balsley to develop and strengthen your emerging design and technical expertise working on high profile, award‑winning projects in NYC, the US, and abroad.
We are actively seeking creative, highly skilled junior‑level landscape designers with 3 to 5 years of experience for immediate employment in our New York City studio.
In this role, you will collaborate with a team of talented designers and studio leadership, including National ASLA Design Medalist Tom Balsley. This is a unique opportunity to help shape a dynamic studio, develop a robust portfolio of built work of the highest design caliber, and engage with various other studios of SWA— the largest design‑centric landscape architecture firm in the U.S.
We offer fully funded semi‑annual bonuses, profit sharing, employee stock ownership, full 401(k) match, generous health insurance, and H1B sponsorship in the U.S. where applicable. SWA is 100% employee‑owned.
Minimum Requirements
Accredited degree in Landscape Architecture
3‑5 years of professional experience in a landscape architecture firm
Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills
Attention to detail and organization
Strong communication skills (graphic, written, and verbal)
Effective time management skills
Positive attitude and sense of accountability
Proficiency in:
AutoCAD
3D modeling (Rhino or SketchUp)
Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
Lumion
Hand sketching
Preferred Qualifications
Light project management experience
Experience working on projects for NYC agencies, particularly DPR Capital Division, EDC, and DDC
Experience working on international projects, particularly in the Middle East and Asia
Experience with:
Revit
Grasshopper
ArcMap / ArcGIS
