Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
Position Overview
The Content Engagement & Social Assistant is part of our vision to pioneer the future of sports and entertainment and plays a crucial role within Sharks Sports & Entertainment’s (SSE) Brand function. This part‑time position supports in delivering real‑time, high‑quality, and high‑impact digital storytelling on every San Jose Sharks gameday and other special content projects, both remotely and onsite at SAP Center.
This role focuses heavily on the planning, creation, and execution of live digital content across social media, web, and mobile platforms. The Content Engagement & Social Assistant helps bring the Sharks brand to life in the moments that matter most, ensuring fans around the world experience the energy, emotion, and excitement of Sharks hockey. This position requires strong instincts for live sports coverage, a polished grasp of social media best practices, and the ability to operate confidently and quickly under pressure during fast‑paced events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Gameday Coverage & Live Execution
- Support the full execution of Sharks gameday content across X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and other platforms, pregame, in‑game, and postgame.
- Capture and publish real‑time content from arena locations (when onsite), including warmups, key moments, fan energy, behind‑the‑scenes access, and post‑game storytelling.
- Assist with remote gameday coverage when not onsite, ensuring high‑quality publishing, timely updates, and‑time reactions.
- Draft, publish, and adapt live social copy that reflects brand tone and enhances fan engagement.
- Help execute content plans that accompany live games, team announcements, breaking news, and special theme nights.
Operations & Channel Support
- Support real‑time monitoring of fan sentiment, league trends, and social conversations to identify engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate with Creative & Production teams to ensure assets (graphics, videos, animations, photography) are properly prepared and optimized for each platform.
- Assist with same‑day or next‑day reporting on gameday performance, highlights, and audience insights.
- Contribute to content planning and ideation for upcoming games, special events, and tentpole moments throughout the season and beyond.
- Work collaboratively with the broader Content, Creative, Marketing, and Game Presentation teams to ensure unified storytelling.
- Uphold editorial standards, tone of voice, and fan‑first storytelling of the Content Strategy across all published content.
- Embrace SSE’s culture of creativity, agility, and innovation, especially in high‑pressure, real‑time environments.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2‑4 years of experience in social media, marketing, communications, or digital content creation; experience covering live sports or working in sports & entertainment strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience creating content in real time, especially within fast‑paced or live‑event settings.
- Strong understanding of major social media platforms, real‑time engagement strategies, and platform‑specific best practices.
- Ability to stay calm, make decisions quickly, and adapt in dynamic, high‑energy environments.
- Working knowledge of social media culture, sports internet trends, jargon, and platform features.
- Experience with digital publishing/CMS systems; basic HTML familiarity is a plus.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, or similar) preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to shift tone for different platforms and audiences.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- A proactive self‑starter who brings forward new ideas, solutions, and creative concepts while keeping management informed.
- Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the NHL game schedule.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general digital tools.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand and utilize a computer for extended periods of time
- Communicate via phone and email with a variety of individuals
- Ability to bend at the waist, reach overhead and lift up to 15 lbs with or without accommodation
- Physically navigate stairs and catwalks at SSE facilities during normal work hours and events with or without accommodation
- Ability to work occasional extended hours including nights, weekends, holidays (all with advance notice)
- May be required to travel to other company locations
- May be required to attend conference, events, and training sessions within Bay Area or in‑or out‑of‑state locations.
