Commercial & Advertising Art Instructor – SOMO Technical Institute 3 days ago Be among the first 25 applicants JOB TITLE: CAREER AND TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR - COMMERCIAL & ADVERTISING ART The CTE Instructor for Commercial and Advertising Art will prepare students for post‑secondary education and entry‑level careers in visual design, marketing, and commercial art. This role requires an industry expert to create an engaging, hands‑on learning environment that emphasizes both artistic fundamentals and industry‑standard digital and traditional techniques. Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum: Develop and implement a robust curriculum focused on the principles of design, visual communication, branding, illustration, and advertising. Provide hands‑on instruction in industry‑standard software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Teach traditional art skills, including drawing, color theory, and composition, as they apply to commercial work. Integrate relevant academic skills (math, English, science) within the technical curriculum. Career & Technical Training: Prepare students to develop a professional portfolio and present their work for critique. Guide students in understanding professional practices, client relations, and ethical standards in the commercial art industry. Coordinate and oversee student participation in career development activities, internships, and industry certifications. Maintain and manage all classroom equipment, technology, and art supplies. Qualifications Provide verification of a minimum of 6,000 hours of direct occupational experience in the food service industry within the most recent ten years. Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited institution with a major in the area to be taught and 4,000 hours of related employment. Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution with a major in the area to be taught and 5,000 hours of related employment. Job Goal To assist students in learning subject matter and skills that will contribute to their specific technical field. Incorporates community resources in the learning process. Instruction and Learning Connects content to the authentic experiences of students. Is sensitive and responsive to how students learn. Guides student behavior in a positive and constructive manner. Uses various instructional strategies to enhance and motivate student learning. Understands the various developmental levels of students. Promotes responsible, self‑directed learners. Assessment and Evaluation Uses various methods for assessing student performance. Uses prior student performance (achievement) to plan new learning opportunities. Records and reports student progress on a regular basis. Provides students and parents with evaluative information. Seeks input from parents and students. Promotes the development of self‑assessment skills. Student Orientation Demonstrates a commitment to students’ social and personal success. Demonstrates a commitment to students’ academic success. Demonstrates a commitment to students’ health, safety, and welfare. Builds positive interpersonal relationships with students. Demonstrates self‑directed professional growth that should include self‑assessment and reflection continually updated to impact students. Perform other duties as assigned by administrators. Terms of Employment Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education. Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
