Assistant Professor of Communication Studies – Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC)

Brief Summary of Work
The Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position within the subdiscipline of Integrated Marketing Communication to begin August 2026. The successful candidate will teach a 3:2 load, primarily in the fully online‑asynchronous OAP‑model graduate program in IMC, and will have an active research agenda in IMC and related fields.
On initial appointment the candidate will teach in the online accelerated M.A. IMC program and the undergraduate integrated marketing communication curriculum. Preference for cross‑disciplinary interests in social media (social science perspective), tourism, or environmental studies.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Ph.D. in Communication Studies or a closely related discipline.
- Clear evidence of IMC orientation must be provided in application material.
ABD applicants considered; Ph.D. must be confirmed by August 1 2026 for eligibility of employment.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for asynchronous online graduate teaching.
- Desire to engage in service and leadership within the IMC program and larger department.
- Teaching and research in IMC or a related area with a commitment to the IMC approach to advertising, public relations, marketing communication, visual communication, and related areas.
- Online teaching and graduate‑level teaching experience.
- Experience facilitating applied/experiential learning experiences.
- Experience advising student organizations (Lambda Pi Eta, etc.).
- Research agenda that includes collaboration, interdisciplinary interests, grant funding, and/or student participation. >Research agenda that includes one of the following cross‑disciplinary areas: social media (social science perspective), tourism, or environmental studies.
- Fluency with Adobe CC.
- Online course design (such as QM).
- Research focus and/or teaching experience in quantitative or mixed methods research.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Communication Studies is a large department within the College of Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts. It serves approximately 500 majors in its B.A. program and 120 students in its M.A. program in Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC). The department values excellent teaching, creative work, and engagement with the university and discipline through thoughtful service.
