Job Summary: We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Graphic Design Teacher to educate and inspire students in the principles and practices of visual communication. The successful candidate will develop and deliver curriculum that fosters creativity, technical proficiency, and critical thinking.
Key Responsibilities Curriculum and lesson development: Design and implement comprehensive lesson plans that cover a range of graphic design topics, including design theory, typography, color theory, digital illustration, and software proficiency.
Classroom instruction: Deliver engaging lectures and demonstrations to students with various skill levels, both in-person and potentially through online platforms.
Project guidance and evaluation: Assign and evaluate student projects, providing constructive feedback and hosting critiques to help students improve their skills and build their portfolios.
Software training: Ensure students become proficient in industry-standard graphic design software, such as the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other relevant applications.
Mentorship and advising: Advise and mentor students on academic and career pathways, providing support and guidance to help them achieve their professional goals.
Stay current with industry trends: Continuously update course material to reflect current trends, emerging technologies, and new methodologies in graphic design.
Administrative duties: Participate in departmental meetings, committee work, and school-wide events.
Create a positive learning environment: Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages creativity, experimentation, and critical thinking.
Required Skills And Qualifications Education: Kansas certification in content area assignment or certification in a different state with qualifications that allow for licensure in Kansas. Highly Qualified under No Child Left Behind preferred.
Experience: A strong professional background as a graphic designer, with an impressive portfolio showcasing a range of design skills and projects.
Portfolio: A strong portfolio of professional work that demonstrates expertise across various design applications.
Technical skills: High-level proficiency in industry-standard software like Adobe Creative Suite is essential.
Teaching skills: Exceptional communication, presentation, and public speaking skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
Soft skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, a passion for teaching, and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
Preferred qualifications Prior teaching experience at the desired level (e.g., high school, college).
Experience with web design, UX/UI design, and motion graphics.
Active involvement in the professional design community.
Experience with online teaching tools and learning management systems (LMS).
