Adjunct Faculty, Television and Film Production

The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication at Hofstra University invites applicants to apply for adjunct faculty positions in the Department of Radio, Television, Film (RTVF) to teach courses within its new pilot “Hofstra in L.A.” program, located on the Emerson College campus in Hollywood, California. The “Hofstra in LA.” semester provides students with on‑site Hofstra University courses related to the entertainment industry, internships within their areas of interest, exclusive networking opportunities with alumni and other industry leaders, and planned social events and cultural activities throughout the semester. Students will broaden their understanding of career possibilities, develop skills needed to compete in a highly competitive industry, and establish valuable professional relationships.

The successful candidates will teach one or more courses focused on film and/or television production. The position is part‑time, 45‑classroom‑hour, for the Spring 2025 semester (January 27 2025 to May 17 2025). Teaching will be in English and performed onsite at Emerson College Los Angeles Center. The pay scale is $144.00 – $152.00 per classroom hour, with the minimum range increased when California state sets the 2025 minimum rate. “Classroom hour” means time spent in the primary forum of the course or laboratory, regardless of whether the forum is in‑person or virtual. Payment covers all classroom or laboratory time, preparation, grading, office hours, and other related work. Employment, if selected, will be through Kelly Services.

Qualifications

  • A master’s in fine arts or other advanced degree, or a minimum of 10 years professional experience in a related field.
  • Significant professional experience with credits producing filmed entertainment, including motion pictures and television. Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of producing—development, finance, production, and distribution.
  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.
  • Flexibility to accommodate a teaching schedule.
  • Proficiency in English is required.
  • Availability to begin teaching in the Spring 2025 semester.

Preferred Qualities

  • Teaching experience in higher education.
  • For some courses, expertise in digital post‑production—including audio and image processing—evidenced by significant professional work experience.
