Job Description

The Librarian II – Adult Collections Coordinator develops and maintains adult collections for the library system, assists in the operation of the Technical Services department, and provides library services to the public.

Essential Functions

  • Provides exceptional customer service to external and internal customers. Responds to and resolves patron questions or concerns.
  • Oversees selection, development, weeding, and maintenance of adult collections. Works with Branch Managers and Technical Services to establish and evaluate related procedures.
  • Assists with Technical Services duties, including cataloging, importing and editing records, assigning call numbers, and participating in SCLENDS workgroups.
  • Assists at the Information Services desk. Assists patrons with finding materials, scheduling study rooms, using public computers, and other library resources.
  • Reviews donated materials and adds to collection as appropriate.
  • Assists with library programs and community outreach activities as needed.
  • Works with Library Director to develop and evaluate policies related to collections.
  • Participates in the library’s ongoing training program.

Non-Essential Functions

  • Assists in the South Carolina Room, art gallery, and other library departments as needed.
  • Serves as HQ Manager-on-Duty when needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of, and shares with staff, current library service trends and related developments.
  • Works evenings and weekends as required.
  • Participates in special projects as needed. Performs all other related duties as required.

Qualifications: Education and Work Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited graduate program; 2+ years of relevant professional experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge and skills
  • Must possess or qualify for a Professional Librarian’s Certificate from the South Carolina State Library.
  • Proficient with computers, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and office equipment.
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.

  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, carry, move and lift 10 lb. objects regularly.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must have the ability to travel up to 10%.
