Student Worker - Hope Place Public Library (Temporary)

Two (2) Student Workers are needed in the Library Services Division to shelve library materials, check books in and out, and assist with general library clerical duties.

Responsibilities

• Shelf library materials and maintain order on shelving.
• Charge, discharge, ship, and return library items.
• Retrieve, shelve, and shelf‑read library materials.
• Search for reserved or overdue materials.
• Check books in and out at the circulation desk.
• Assist with general library clerical duties.
• May be assigned to other county library locations as operational needs arise.
• Attend work on a regular and consistent basis.
• Adhere to Federal, State, County, and local ordinances.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Must be an active high school or college student.
• Minimum age of 16 years.
• College/University students must be currently enrolled full‑time (Fall/Spring semester – minimum 12 credit hours or Summer semester – minimum 9 credit hours).
• Temporary position: 10 hours per week, part‑time.
• Must pass required background check.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and obtain a valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of appointment; must maintain thereafter.
• Knowledge of basic shelving techniques, including numerical sorting and alphabetization.
• Basic computer skills.
• Basic customer service skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, volunteers, and the public.
• Ability to work under stressful conditions and interact effectively with others.
• Must be able to relocate to other county locations based on operational needs.

Physical Demands

Medium, repetitive work. Ability to see, hear, listen, talk; detailed finger dexterity, including grasping and small tool manipulation; lift and push 25+ pounds; carry, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, stretch, twist, and climb; stand for long periods.

Mental Demands

Ability to read complex materials including technical and professional journals, abstracts, etc.; write reports, memos, letters, and summaries; analyze data and develop conclusions; speak and communicate complex ideas and information; perform general mathematical functions.
